Define the work before you agree on the price.

What shapes the scope

Oversight needs vary with the practice and the work involved. Discuss these factors so the proposed engagement reflects actual responsibilities:

  • Services, devices and the clinical complexity of the treatment menu.
  • Provider roles, experience, availability and training needs.
  • Locations, on-site participation and consultation coverage.
  • Chart review, protocols, documentation and onboarding work.
  • Whether the practice is opening, expanding or changing its current arrangement.

Assessing local fair market value

We assess local fair market value for the medical director’s practice-of-medicine services based on the local market, the agreed service scope, the time involved and the physician’s clinical responsibilities. The assessment and proposed compensation should be documented around the work to be performed, rather than referral volume.

The scope may include:

  • Chart reviews and on-site clinical training.
  • Protocol review and adverse-event management.
  • Clinical orders.
  • Clinical review and approval of online wellness and prescription medication services, including prescription weight-management therapies and peptide therapies only where legally permitted and clinically appropriate.
  • Performing good-faith exams and coordinating their documentation with ongoing care.

Our current Orange County benchmark for licensed physician supervision is $235 per hour. A typical participating med spa records approximately 1–3 hours of work per month in the work ledger, including work by physicians and other licensed professionals. Actual scope and charges depend on the services performed and the engagement.

The $235 hourly benchmark applies specifically to physician supervision. It is our stated local benchmark, not an independently validated market-wide rate. The recorded monthly hours are not a fixed cap or a quote for total monthly charges. The assessment informs an individualized proposal and does not, by itself, establish legal compliance.

$10 good-faith exams within the practice relationship

The $10 per-exam offering is for participating practices within an established clinical relationship. Exams are connected to clinical oversight and documentation in our proprietary electronic medical record system. We do not offer standalone exams to outside organizations.

The exam price is not a quote for the full oversight engagement. Discuss the overall scope, applicable services and written pricing through the same professional inquiry process.

Physician participation under Spa Shield policy

Under Spa Shield policy, the supervising physician is expected to personally perform at least 10% of the good-faith exams at every med spa location they supervise. This means performing the exams, not merely reviewing or signing off on exams completed by another clinician.

Documentation should track the supervising physician’s exam participation separately for each location. This is an internal Spa Shield policy, not a California statutory minimum or a guarantee of compliance. The engagement should account for this direct clinical work alongside the physician’s other responsibilities.

From inquiry to engagement

Participation in Spa Shield is required for anyone working with Orange County Med Spa Directors. Our practice follows Spa Shield policies and uses its medical spa operating system and management tools. We discuss the participation requirements as part of reviewing fit and preparing the engagement.

  1. Introduce your needs. Select your professional persona and tell us about your practice, client or clinical interests.
  2. Review fit. Discuss structure, services, qualifications, availability and the support required.
  3. Review the proposal. Clarify responsibilities, pricing, payment terms, exclusions and any transition or termination provisions before signing.
  4. Prepare to begin. Complete the agreed credential review, documentation, Spa Shield participation and operational onboarding before clinical work starts.

Questions to settle before signing

  • Which activities and locations are included?
  • Who handles clinical questions and after-hours escalation?
  • What requires an additional discussion or amended scope?
  • How are changes, notice and records responsibilities addressed?

Submitting an inquiry does not create an engagement, reserve coverage or authorize a charge. Fees other than the stated participating-practice exam price are discussed individually. There is no guaranteed onboarding timeline, clinical outcome or provider income.
